Lewis Myers left a 7-year career in the biotech pharmaceutical distribution business to search for a business opportunity that would allow him to be his own boss and make better use of his skills. Myers, who is also a CPA, knew he wanted to buy an established business and found the right opportunity with Right at Home. In September he officially took over the territory of Montgomery, Prince Georges and Ann Arundel Counties, Maryland.
How did you learn about the brand?
I worked with a franchise coach who helped match my personality with the right franchise concept. I was looking broadly, but I was actually very interested in the [in home care] market given the very attractive demographics of the business. I wanted to be in some sort of service business for folks getting on in years, but I wasn’t looking at this business specifically.
What was appealing to you about joining a franchise system?
I liked the idea that I was starting my own business but at the same time was using a proven recipe for success. Having an accounting background, going with a franchise rather than starting out cold mitigates a lot of risk.
What makes your business different?
I initially looked at a competitor of Right at Home but after more research and speaking with my franchise coach I realized I didn’t want to start from scratch. In home care is a competitive business and many territories are pretty small and difficult to make a living in. A resale opportunity came up with Right at Home and, coupled with Right at Home’s stellar reputation, so it really pushed me in this direction.
