Although a native of Baltimore, Lorette has lived most of her life in southern California with her husband of 24 years, Darin, and son, Adam. Joining the Right at Home franchise was a natural fit for Lorette as she combined 15 years of experience in the elder care industry with her love for helping others. 

When choosing a franchise, what were the criteria you used to make your decision?   

I knew that I wanted to remain in the elder care industry since I had spent 15 years acquiring expertise in this particular field.  There are several elder care franchises to choose from so I did research to find which one would be the best fit for me. I reached out to multiple franchise companies before coming across a list about franchisee satisfaction and Right at Home was high on the list. After I saw that, I reached out to Right at Home and was very impressed by the corporate team. Right at Home’s company mission, values, and genuine attitude made them stand out among other in home senior care franchises. I also liked that they are selective about the franchisees they bring aboard.  They search for people with similar value systems, ambition and high standards for providing quality care to the senior care community. In talking with other franchisees during my discovery process, I heard how happy they’ve been with their decision to become Right at Home franchisees. They too, shared a similar level of genuineness and passion for the business.   

What was appealing to you about joining a franchise system? 

I had the business knowledge to be successful at running my own business as I had been working in the senior care industry for 15 years. What I needed though was guidance and expertise on starting my own company.  The franchise was attractive to me because there is a system in place, expertise of the corporate staff at my finger tips and support that they would provide to me anytime I picked up the phone.  In addition to the corporate support, I also have the support of other Right at Home franchisees.  They too will be able to give me advice and strategies that have helped them become successful.  The wealth of knowledge at my fingertips is something you just can’t get outside of a franchise. 

With regard to your previous experience, what skills do you feel helped you in your business?

I was previously the Regional Director of sales and marketing for Sunrise Senior Living, a national senior living company. Prior to Sunrise, I sold Medicare senior HMO for Aetna US Healthcare, and worked in sales and marketing for another medical management company which dealt with the senior market as well. Although I acquired sales and marketing skills through my 15-year career in the senior healthcare industry, I feel like my people skills will help me most in my new business with Right at Home.  In my various roles in the senior care industry, I have learned compassion and an understanding for the issues seniors deal with daily and I believe those attributes are key to making this business successful.  I love the feeling of knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s life.  In addition, my sales and marketing experience will be crucial to educating the community on the services we provide at Right at Home and thus growing the business. 

Why did you choose to enter the elder care industry? 

All my experience is in the elder care industry so becoming a franchisee in the elder care industry was a natural fit. After working for someone else for so many years, it is a great next step for me in terms of developing, starting and managing my own business. It is something I’ve always want to do, but I wasn’t prepared to do until recently. After gaining knowledge and experience, and becoming prepared financially, I was finally at a point in my career that I was ready for the next step.
