New Medicare regs could boost home health care

New Medicare regulations intended to cut rising health care costs by decreasing patient readmission rates are drawing increased attention to what happens to discharged patients after they leave the hospital.

And with Medicare to begin next year penalizing hospitals with higher-than-expected readmission rates, the rule is also spurring new opportunities, competition and growth for the home health care industry.
