As many as 1 million people in the U.S are affected by Parkinson’s disease, with 50,000 new cases diagnosed each year. With the aging of the country’s population, this number is expected to increase considerably in the next 20 years. In light of these numbers, Right at Home renewed its partnership with the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) to raise awareness about this debilitating disease. Sharing a common mission with NPF – improving the quality of life for those we serve – Right at Home became the national sponsor of the organization’s 2013-2014 Moving Day events. After 10 successful Moving Days across the nation this year, the event wrapped up its 2013 season this Saturday Nov. 16 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This marked the third year of Moving Day events, an activity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for those who live with Parkinson’s disease.  With a lively festival atmosphere, Moving Day was envisioned as a fun event to unite families, friends and communities across the U.S. Participants enjoyed family friendly walks, food and music at each event. By highlighting the role that ‘movement’ and exercise play in helping manage Parkinson’s, each walk also featured activities such as yoga, Tai Chi, dance and Pilates.

In addition to the event in Honolulu, Right at Home staff and clients also proudly participated in Moving Day events in Miami, FL; Orange County, CA; Augusta, GA; Chicago, IL; Rome, GA; North Carolina Triangle Region; Atlanta, GA; Washington, D.C. and Boca Raton, FL this year. With the end of the 2013 Walking Day season, we look forward to continuing our involvement in supporting the great cause in 2014.
