Description

Adam Reeback, a new Right at Home franchisee in North Scottsdale, Arizona, transitioned from a 22-year career in telecom to senior care. Driven by a passion for community and a design to help others, Adam purchased a resale opportunity in January 2024 that had been impacted by the pandemic, so it was more like an almost new territory. Although Adam did not have any health care, home care, or senior care background, he did have a passion for people and a sense of community to be involved. Listen to the fulfilling journey of Adam Reeback as he talks about becoming a Right at Home franchise owner with Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development.

Previous Background

After 22 years in the telecom industry, including about 18 years where Adam was one of three owners in a wireless management company with 100 employees. He was working a lot of hours, had a lot of stress, and started getting burned out. Adam wanted to be a business owner.

Choosing Right at Home

Adam is proud to say he is a big fan of building a sense of community and having connections. His community is the people that he works with and the people that he lives around. He volunteers for his HOA and also for a hospice company. The hospice company volunteer work was eye-opening. It felt good to help people and continue building a little bit of community. Adam also had a friend he knew from before college who was a franchise owner for Right at Home in Los Angeles, which steered him in this direction.

Life as a New Franchisee

Before officially taking over in January, Adam notes there was a lot of work in getting contracts written up, having lawyers review everything, handling pre-work, and meeting franchise people. January and February felt like drinking from a fire hose because he had so many administrative T’s to cross and I’s to dot. Adam says that at one point he had 460 little task items to handle. So he kept hammering away, using the 3D’s system of either delegate, do, or delete. Adam does have a business partner, Jack, who is 25% owner and is the money and finance guy. He doesn’t come into the office but is a big help. The feeling of being overwhelmed did subside. In March Adam was able to roll up his sleeves and dig into meeting seniors, helping them, matching them to caregivers, and spending time inside people’s homes, assisted living facilities, or skilled nursing facilities. He admits that meeting, and talking to seniors, feeling like I was helping makes it all worth it.

Most Valuable Support

When asked what was the most valuable piece of support he received from the franchisor, Adam expressed his thoughts about the interconnectedness of the internal resources of Right at Home Corporate. He notes that there is no pay wall, no wall of gatekeepers, and everyone at Corporate that he emails gets back to him immediately. He states that it feels like you are in an organization and they are there for you if you want to use them. They are also extremely kind and forgiving if you don’t want to use certain resources. “Everyone that he has interacted with wants to help. It’s very refreshing and comforting to have that,” Adam said.
