Meet Brent and Andrea Morgan, owners of Right at Home in Gilbert, AZ, as they talk with Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development, about their experiences and journey since becoming franchisees in mid-2023. Brent, who has a background in marketing and sales, and Andrea, a mother to five children, wanted to find a franchise that aligned with their values and lifestyle. Brent and Andrea discuss the support they have received from Right at Home, which includes onboarding, coaching, and educational opportunities. They also advise prospective franchisees to do thorough research and the importance of staying engaged in the business.

Previous Background 

Brent and Andrea Morgan own one territory in Gilbert, AZ. Before becoming owners, Brent was in marketing and sales, but always wanted to be a small business owner, where he could see the same people every day, and know about their kids and their lives. We researched franchising vs. starting our own business and franchising provided us a mitigated risk option which they preferred. Brent was also a general manager of a Right at Home for one year, and he knew this was what Andrea and he wanted to do.

Choosing Right at Home

We talked to other existing owners on the advice of another Right at Home owner. That owner also suggested we research other home care agencies. We did. We had a checklist and read the book “Franchising for Dummies,” which also included another checklist. All the other franchises missed the mark. Right at Home checked every box and checked our own personal box that we needed and wanted for ourselves.

Franchise Ownership

Andrea admits it was hard at the beginning. She was the marketer and did payroll, billing, and scheduling. They both did client intakes and warm handoffs, and she filled shifts. When they got their first overnight clients, she jumped in to be the overnight caregiver. They just hired their first FTE in July. Brent noted that Corporate provided the guide as to what you want to have in your first hire and what to look for. Now, Andrea can focus more on marketing and Brent can focus on client intakes and visiting his top 10 clients so they get the personal touch from an owner. They added that they are looking into hiring a scheduler before the end of the month.

Most Valuable Support

Andrea notes that there’s always been someone to support you at every phase as our level has grown. From onboarding, RightStart training, our RightStart coach, and now our business coach, we have had support all along the way. Andrea went to Home Improvement, and it was very educational because she got to talk with other owners, ask questions, and learn from them. There is always someone that they can reach out to and answer their questions. They are never alone. Brent adds that he meets monthly with his Online Media Specialist, who he can send blogs and add social media updates. They are also looking forward to joining a performance group, where they can engage with a corporate coach and other owners on strategies for the future and how to get there.

Advice to Prospective Franchisees

Andrea and Brent both enthusiastically say “Do it”! They advise you to do your research because this type of business isn’t for everybody. Know what is expected, what franchise you’re looking for, and how engaged you want to be. Right at Home isn’t an absentee-owner type franchise. You have to be engaged every step of the way. Brent adds that it’s not just about making an impact on the clients that you are providing services it, it’s an impact in multiple ways. You are not only caring for the individuals who are receiving care from Right at Home, but also caring for your caregivers. It’s just as important to care for them, create a culture, and an environment where they love to go to work, love what they do, feel valued, and appreciated. Andrea comments that the culture carries up into the Corporate office. As owners, they love that they get shout-outs, kudos, and congratulations from Corporate as they are trying their best. It gets noticed. That’s another important thing to point out.
