Previous Background
With a background rooted in business management and technology, Sagar Patel was comfortable building scalable operations and working with high-performing teams. When his father-in-law needed quality care at home, he felt as though he truly wanted to support families during some of their most vulnerable moments, which led him to join Right at Home. Sagar’s franchise opened in March 2024 with a single territory in Calabasas, California, covering key communities in Los Angeles and Ventura County.
Choosing Right at Home
Sagar did not have any previous health care experience. He noted that Right at Home stood out to him because of its strong reputation and proven commitment to quality care. He did extensive research evaluating various companies, and Right at Home’s culture, compassion, and support aligned perfectly with his own values.
Most Valuable Support
Right at Home Corporate actively invests in support for all the franchisees’ success. Sagar states they provide tools, training, resources, and support from the moment he signed. He received assistance in submitting his license, to getting all items done so he could get open as quickly as possible. Sagar said, “I felt confident joining Right at Home would allow me to make a meaningful difference, and that was really the deciding factor.”
Life as a New Franchisee
When Sagar first opened the business, he’ll admit it was pretty slow. He was focusing on administrative duties, making sure they were in compliance. We were waiting for the phone to ring. Sagar was also figuring out how to get more business. He didn’t really have a structured schedule. Now eight months later, he is still trying to figure it out but is trying to stay focused on daily operations. His days begin early, reviewing client schedules, and ensuring that his caregivers are fully prepared and briefed on any unique clients or unique needs they may have. He has check-ins with his team to review client feedback and address any scheduling challenges. Sagar stays highly involved with the clients and their families. Since he still has a small staff, he does a lot of the sales and marketing. He now has a daily structure and business is picking up.
Network Support
Sagar feels that having the network of other Right at Home owners is extremely valuable to him. He relies on them constantly in terms of their experience, problem-solving, and feedback, and feels their support has been critical in his growth and success. The network of owners is incredibly invaluable, in that every owner is more than willing to help and pick up the phone whenever he has called them.
Advice for Prospective Franchisees
When asked to offer a potential owner advice, Sagar said, “Go into the business with a full-hearted commitment and genuine passion for helping others,” said Sagar. He added that Right at Home isn’t just about running a business. It’s about improving life and supporting families. It’s an opportunity to make a profound impact.
