The Research Process with Right at Home

Join us for a conversation with Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development with Right at Home, along with Chuck Prentner and Trevor Steenholdt, discuss what Right at Home’s process is in bringing on new franchisees and what you could expect during your research process. Chuck Prentner has been working in franchise development since 1988. He aligned himself with Right at Home as he want to work with a concept which was going to make the world a better place. Right at Home’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those they serve. Trevor Steenholdt has been working in franchise development for 8 years and believes in the legacy plan at Right at Home.  The following is a summary:

  • Initial Call – This is the building base of the formal investigation. We want to learn more about you, and have you ask questions of us, i.e., what’s the initial investment?, what does the training look like? We hope the prospect has also had time to visit the website educating themselves about Right at Home. There is no commitment required during the initial call. If they don’t think it’s a match, they need to let us know. Same on our side, we have an obligation to let them know if we don’t think they are a match.
  • Personal Profile – After the initial call, the prospect is sent a personal profile, an online document where they need to provide financial information and also background on themselves and their spouse. A Personal Profile call is then made to review the document. This is approximately an hour call where Right at Home will make sure the prospect is a good match, has a passion for seniors or giving back to the community. There needs to be complete transparency, much like a job interview, learning about management (employee recognition, creating a company culture, managing tough situations, etc.
  • Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) – Following the personal profile call, Right at Home will send the prospect a copy of the Franchise Disclosure Document to begin review. After some time to review, a call is scheduled to go over the FDD to ensure the franchisee understand and have a working knowledge of what this document is about. If it is a husband and wife, both will need to be on the call, and the FTC will require both to sign the receipt page after a minimum of 14 days in possession.
  • Business Overview Call – This call is a review of the different systems our franchisees work within, i.e., CRM, intranet. Support from subject matter experts, performance coaches, online marketing specialists are covered on this call, too. An added note of importance, if it is a husband and wife team, where one of them is going to run the business or partnership, both will still need to be on this conversation. Right at Home wants to make sure they have a complete understanding of the business.
  • Caregiver Training – The franchise owner is responsible for training the caregivers. However, Right at Home has many resources to help and support the franchise owners when it comes to training the caregivers. Available from the franchisor are handouts, videos, processes and other additional materials to assist you in training.
  • Franchisee Validation – Right at Home provides you the opportunity to have an impactful conversation with other franchisees in our system, and hear about their experiences. The candidate will receive a list of all of our franchisees and are required to reach out and have one-on-one conversations with a minimum of three franchisees. Some examples of questions: Why did you get involved with Right at Home?, Would you do it again?, What is your relationship with other franchisees and the corporate office?
  • Discovery Day Invitation Call – This is the final interview session with Jen Chaney focusing on the compelling reason you want to own a Right at Home franchise and really drilling down into your evaluation process on why you want to do this. If the candidate has a good understanding, Chaney will invite you to discovery day.
  • Discovery Day – This is a virtual day. The first half is talking with different support teams, engagement teams, and subject matter experts. The second half of the day is going to be interviews with various department heads. The interviews are very important as these individuals have final approval on if you are awarded a franchise within the system.
  • Post Discovery Day Call – If you are approved, you will receive a call the following Monday. We’ve established the expectation you are in a position to sign the franchise agreement, fund the franchise fee within five days of approval, and have reserved your territory.
