The Mathews Family, a father-mother-son team, transitioned from a corporate career, stay-at-home parenting, and pre-med studies respectively to deliver compassionate care to seniors in New York.
Regi Mathews, a former Wall Street corporate tax director, transitioned into franchising after 30 years in corporate America, driven by a personal experience caring for his mother-in-law with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He saw a growing need for senior care and wanted to make a positive impact in his community. Regi had previously owned three restaurants but was drawn to franchising this time around for the tried and tested business model and support it provided. Alongside his wife Geetha, Regi ventured into franchising with Right at Home* 10 years ago; soon after, their son Nathan, who had initially pursued a medical career, joined the team.
Now, a decade later, the family of franchisees has expanded with a new territory, bringing their total Right at Home territory count to three and covering Northern Westchester, Putnam, and Duchess counties in New York. Together, they aim to build a lasting, community-focused business, valuing their caregivers as much as their clients.

Right at Home franchisee Jeanine Gagliano entered the caregiving industry after her personal experience caring for her grandmother, handling tasks like cooking, household help, and driving her to appointments. Though she pursued a career in broadcasting, Gagliano’s connection to caregiving remained strong, making in-home care a natural choice when she transitioned careers. Now, she celebrates nearly 10 years of business success on Long Island, New York, where she has five Right at Home territories.
Gagliano recently joined 1851 Franchise Founder and Publisher Nick Powills to discuss her franchise journey and how her personal caregiving experiences shaped her approach to running her business. In their conversation, she shared how her passion for helping seniors and the support of the Right at Home franchise system allowed her to create a meaningful and successful career.
“We both had very busy lives. He decided that the rat race wasn’t for him anymore, and his sister — who’s a doctor — suggested he look into the health care industry and in-home care, especially with the aging baby boomer population. So, he did. At the same time, he found out that a good friend of his had retired from the finance industry a couple of years earlier and had purchased a Right at Home franchise. We put those two ideas together, and that’s how we ended up where we are now.” Gagliano told 1851 Franchise Founder and Publisher Nick Powills on a recent “Meet the Zee” podcast episode.
When the pandemic hit and everything shut down, Gagliano made the decision not to go back to her previous career. She chose to give 100% of herself to the business. Powills asked Gagliano, “What does winning look like for you?” Jeanine replies, “Well, I own five territories, so the scaling is done. My goal now is to help as many people as possible. In a staff meeting, I reminded them why we answer the phone with, “How may I help you?” It’s a privilege to help someone, even if it’s not with our service — maybe by referring them to an elder care attorney or helping with a move. Whether it’s a caregiver or client, they’re equally important. “How may I help you?” is my honor and privilege, and it feels just as good even if it doesn’t lead to business.
When asked about the support Gagliano receives from Right at Home Corporate, she replied, “Yes, they have weekly calls to update us on innovations and monthly calls with my coach — sometimes more frequently if they don’t know an answer, they’ll find it.”
Listen to the full webinar where Gagliano discusses why she selected Right at Home, her journey into franchising, and the advantages of selecting a national franchise brand. She also talks about her passion for her clients, her passion for improving the quality of life for her clients, and the compassion and empathy you must bring to the job. It’s a heartwarming story.
