Franchisee Dr. Tracey Banks said she and her husband Bruce Lewis decided to open their Right at Home franchise after seeing the way in-home care benefited her great aunt at the end of her life.
“After Hurricane Katrina, my great aunt Mercy came to live with me,” Dr. Tracey Banks said. “She was 88 years old and lived with me for eight years. As a busy OB-GYN, I couldn’t have done it without the help of caregivers. I know how invaluable that service is, plus it enabled her to be with me in our home. She was there with my kids as they were growing up, going to their activities. It was great to have multiple generations in the house and to hear her stories. I think her last years were very fulfilling.”
Right at Home Prosper, through its network of caregivers, provides assistance with daily tasks, like dressing, toileting, walking, transportation, cooking, and cleaning to the elderly and disabled. It also provides care for veterans and individuals with special care needs, like dementia.
The organization helps older individuals stay in their homes—an environment where they already feel comfortable—by bringing the services they need directly to them. This can positively impact individuals’ quality of life. Because of this great team of caregivers, Right at Home Prosper has won several awards, including the 2024 Best of Home Care Leader in Experience, Provider of Choice, Employer of Choice, Leader in Training, and Top 100 in Experience Awards.
“Depression is very high in nursing homes because a lot of times seniors feel lonely and disconnected,” Dr. Banks said. “There’s several studies that show that longevity and how we age depends a lot on our state of mind. We can either resist it, or we can be resilient and embrace it. I think staying in your own home or in the home of a loved one helps you to embrace aging in a wonderful, beneficial way because it keeps you connected and engaged.”
