Wanting to find out the challenges and opportunities our franchises face, Right at Home started with three weeks of Listening Sessions with different stakeholder groups – internal staff, franchise owners, and external partners. Thought-provoking questions are asked to each stakeholder group about the future and what they see changing.
The leadership group also spoke with the founder Allen Hager to get his perspective on what he has seen since starting the company in 1995. A gerontologist was met to get perspective on the aging process and how can Right at Home can best think about the healthcare continuum, what’s happening in health care, and what that ultimately means for the Right at Home brand. Consumer research through a third party was performed infused with feedback channels from the franchise network. The team then proceeded to the Vision Sessions, which are understanding all the data that came in, looking at how to solve certain challenges the industry is facing, and whether are there opportunities coming for the future. Leadership then started to hone that into what is a strategic plan.
At Right at Home, it’s not just an executive team making decisions. We get feedback from our franchise owners through the Strategic Leadership Council. This Council is made up of franchise owners from across all the regions and was enlisted to participate in the Listening and Visioning Sessions.
Goals are broken into sizable elements, reviewing time, money, and energy needed to move the strategies forward. Key performance indicators are established to hold ourselves accountable. Town halls are scheduled with the franchise network to explain and lay out the full strategy.
A big concern from franchisees is the strategic plan for caregiver availability, and what resources Right at Home provides to their franchisees when their goal is retaining caregivers. You constantly have to be hiring and engaging with the local community. We are looking at ways to tap into pools of caregivers, bringing those applicants in, and then orienting the caregivers so they stay with the company. Right at Home has an entire staff of people who all they do is help our franchise owners with caregiver recruitment and retention.
Right at Home also provides a proprietary dashboard, RightFocus, where individual franchise owners can dive into their data, review it with a business performance coach and understand what’s happening in their business.
