Karla Strickland

Karla and Robert Strickland join Right at Home with strong people skills and a deep desire to help, care and make a difference in their community.

Karla Strickland studied business management at the University of Mississippi and started her career in finance. However, uninspired by the industry, she took a job with Manpower in 1991. She then spent the next 20 years of her career in staffing. After Manpower, Strickland joined a staffing company with a partner and ran the four-office company for six years. The business, which earned $4.2 million in sales, gave Strickland her first taste of managing a business, positioning her perfectly for a new career at Right at Home.

How did you find out about Right at Home?
I searched the Internet for the top 10 home-care providers (I had looked into franchises 12 years prior but the timing wasn’t right). This time, with Robert by my side and the stars lined up, we both knew it was the perfect time to take my past job experiences and begin providing a service to our community and align those skills with the increasing needs of our elderly and disabled neighbors.

Why did you choose an opportunity with Right at Home?
I looked at the numbers and did some research on several companies, but ultimately I chose Right at Home because of its approach, the friendliness of the people at the corporate level, professionalism, goals, and mission. “To improve the quality of life for those we serve” – that’s what Right at Home Tupelo is all about.

I feel that not only do Robert and I have a relationship with the market, but we both also have experience working with different types of people throughout our careers. It’s important to understand people and what they need to make their lives successful.

What personal experience do you have in your own family with caring for a senior?
My father passed away six months after Robert and I were married, leaving my grandmother with a need for a place to live. My husband and I invited my grandmother, who was 99, to come live with us. We decided it was best for her to have a companion during the day. Our experience with in-home care was stress-free, and it gave us peace of mind while at work each day that she was being taken care of and was not alone.  My husband and I provided primary care evenings and weekends.
