Description:

Right at Home’s Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development, talks with Margaret Haynes, CEO & President, providing a general Executive Update and state of the union about the Right at Home franchise system, its growth, and organizational structure through mid-November 2023 and a look into the future.

Business Growth Update

Margaret discusses the status of the franchise system and noted that at the latest franchise town hall, she was pleased to report an all-time high record for the total number of hours of care provided in a single week, 432,0000 hours per week. She was excited about the upward trajectory which means that Right at Home is touching more lives in such a meaningful way. Also noted was the expansion of the brand footprint, which makes everybody’s individual business much stronger.

Corporate Engagement with Franchise Owners

Every Tuesday, the entire franchise system and their office staff are invited to a massive Zoom meeting with specific subject matter and business updates. The owners can ask questions, and there are subject matter experts and preferred vendors involved.

Growth in Demand

The increase in growth is due to the aging of the population. Margaret notes the baby boomer population will start moving into what she considers Right at Home’s sweet spot. She has also seen an increase in the number of more qualified caregivers.

Baseline Goals

Based on the demographics of a specific region, Right at Home can forecast for an owner the approximate number of caregiver hours they should be attaining. With historic information and knowledge of the franchisee’s progress and growth, a Right at Home business performance coach will work with each franchisee on what they see in their local market and what some reasonable metrics would be.

Qualities of an Ideal Franchise Owner

When asked what qualities should a franchise owner have to be successful in their position, Margaret said that Right at Home is looking for individuals who have a passion for senior care or want to be in a relationship-based industry with a service-based business model. Relationship building is very important as the owner needs to be able to relate to their staff, clients, and their families with a compassionate element. Right at Home franchise owners are passionate about the mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. You will also be joining a system that is already proven, has policies and procedures in place, and has structure. Franchise owners are also able to engage with other owners in the network. A successful franchise owner will want to be associated with other individuals who are changing lives.

Owner Operator Business Model

Right at home is a relationship business that is 24/7, 365. Crisis is happening, and all of a sudden there is a need for somebody to come in and help. An owner needs to be dialed in 100% in order to be able to build relationships. As an owner, you are either building a team that is going to take your vision and bring it to life or you’re engaging with an existing team that needs to be able to build a relationship with you. It takes trust… trust with the client, client’s family, and team members… to run your business.

Starting Off in a New Territory

Right at Home is there with you with a Right Start Coach that will help you through the process. They will teach you how to build that confidence of how to talk with families about your services, how to talk to referral sources, and how to engage in your local community. We’ll help you create a video for your own website that talks about why you got into the business. We’ll give you ideas in which you can engage with your local community. There is a best practices manual, as well as brand standards you can use to grow your business. You will come to Omaha headquarters for onboarding and attend virtual online learning.

Client Acquisition

Your Right Start coach will work with you on getting ready to open your doors and developing an appropriate timeline for getting your first client. As an owner, you must be engaged with your business as it is getting started. It’s a great opportunity to understand what it’s like to provide services in someone’s home.

Affordability of Service

Seniors may find it hard to afford the cost of private in-home care. Some people are very reliant on entitlement programs. We do play in the entitlement program in the Medicaid waiver perspective, which is ran at a state level. However, there are plenty of people who can afford our services from a family-funded pay. They may also tap into other services for additional resources.

Challenges to Overcome

It’s the fear of the unknown. But you will be part of a franchise network. You’ll be in business for yourself, but not by yourself. With Right at Home, you will have so many resources available from corporate support, fellow franchisees, and training.
