Description

Jessica Cornelius, Franchise Development Director, and Sandi Heintz, Right at Home franchisee, discuss what a typical day looks like for a Right at Home franchise owner, what attracted Sandi to join the franchise system, and what type of support she receives from Corporate that is the most valuable to her.

Previous Background

Sandi Heintz has been an advocate for “aging in place” since she was 16 years old. She currently has three Right at Home territories in the Houston metro market on the city’s northwest side. She is a certified senior advisor and started with Right at Home in 2013. Before joining Right at Home, Sandi was a strategic consultant for an environmental consulting firm, a mom, and a volunteer.

Making the Decision

Sandi worked for the Area Agency of Aging in between consulting and starting with Right at Home. She has been a huge advocate for aging in place since she was 16. Her passion for assisting families and navigating the process brought her to Right at Home.

A Typical Day

Working more in the strategic role, Sandi has a higher-level approach with her team. The team is significant enough that the day-to-day operations are being handled by them. Sandi looks at more of the strategic sales activities and how to tweak current processes to improve the return on investment. When she first started over 11 years ago, there were one or two people in the office. Although she was definitely more involved in the day-to-day, Sandi took the role of sales and marketing as that was more of her background. She hired an individual to do more of the operational work. Even as the business has grown, her focus has remained more in tune with sales and marketing, and she has outsourced her operational side.

Right at Home Support

The most valuable piece of support Right at Home has provided to Sandi is the integrity of the corporation and the length it’s been in the industry. Sandi also relies on the franchisor’s industry knowledge and the capability to assist every franchisee to be as successful as they want to be. She loves that Corporate believes no franchise should be left behind, and Corporate teams and processes in place help franchisees move the needle.

Advice to a Prospective Franchisee

Sandi Heintz believes in finding what you are good at. Review the business model and look at where you would put your expertise. Think about where you would thrive. When you determine where your role is, find that first hire. Don’t cut corners on your first hire. Develop what you need from that person. Develop that person as somewhat of a partner so that you have someone who will grow with you in the initial process. This person should be someone to complement you, that you can work with, and have the potential to grow as you grow.
