Description

Jim Gall, Right at Home Franchise Owner, sits down with Jessica Cornelius, Franchise Development Director, and gets Jim’s viewpoint of his experiences with the Right at Home franchise network.

Background and Intro

Jim Gall has owned a Right at Home territory in Midland, Michigan for the past 12 years. Prior to Right at Home, Jim spent over 27 years working for Dow and found himself on the wrong end of a reorganization. That’s when he decided he wanted to look for a new career. He decided to create a personal mission statement where he wanted to feel good about what he did at the end of the day. Jim considered this his second chance to have a career, doing something that was fulfilling as well as rewarding.

Choosing Right at Home

As Jim Gall started researching new career opportunities, he decided he wanted to own his own business. Various individuals had offered up suggestions for different business and franchising opportunities. The whole area of senior care kept coming up. As he started to learn more about senior care and the opportunity to help others, he realized it was a nice match with his new personal mission statement of feeling good about your work at the end of the day.

A Typical Day

Twelve years ago, Jim’s job was very different. He was wearing all the hats. Hiring, scheduling, and promoting his business. It was him and another person for quite a long time. But it’s your own business, and that’s what you signed up to do. The business grew, and he was able to hire people to help with hiring, recruiting, retaining caregivers, help with payroll, billing, and bookkeeping. Now, he’s at the point of having an administrator run the day-to-day. Jim works on improvement projects and does more community-based work that helps fulfill the vision of becoming the most recognized and trusted home care company in the area.

Advice to a Prospective Franchisee

Jim said if he were to give anyone looking at this industry one piece of advice, it would be to be active in the system. He noted that you gain a lot of information from other people who have tried many things over the years and decades that Right at Home has been franchising. You bought into a franchise system for a reason, the knowledge of corporate, the tools, processes, and procedures. Go to Home Improvement, join a performance group, and learn from the other owners in the system. Jim also noted he was very proud of what they do in their community, from their activity in the Chamber of Commerce, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and all the other activities they do.
