Description:

Join Nikki Holles, VP of Human Resources, and Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development, as they discuss how Right at Home supports franchisees with recruitment and retention efforts. Nikki is dedicated to coaching franchisees and their office staff on caregiver and office staff recruitment, retention, engagement, and labor law compliance.

Starting Point – Recruiting Caregivers

Franchisees who have just signed their 10-year franchise agreement follow a very calculated approach to all things related to employee experience. It starts with foundational training related to compliance, which includes hiring staff, employing staff, and payroll, as well as setting up your applicant tracking system so recruiting can start. Training covers best practices and providing preferred vendors so franchisees can get great deals on pricing. Corporate will walk through whether you need to hire office staff or caregivers, and the speed of those hires. There are already established workflows and templates that can be used in the systems. Training can include Zoom or Virtual training.

Applicant Tracking System

An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is a software platform where you post job positions, which are then scraped by job boards like Zip Recruiter or CareerBuilder so that external applicants can find them. Once an applicant sees a position, the person’s information comes into the ATS. You can manage your applicants from all different sources, allowing you to work with their communication tools and workflow tools. Automated responses can be set up, such as interview reminders or onboarding. Corporate does provide recommendations for a preferred provider of this service, as it is required for franchisees to have an ATS, however, we don’t dictate which ATS you use.

ATS Training

Corporate does do some training at a higher level, but our preferred partner has an entire implementation team that is dedicated to Right at Home’s franchisees who can provide training, best practices, tools, and troubleshooting.

Additional Preferred Vendor Partners

Right at Home also offers other preferred vendors for Payroll services, employment labor law, benefits brokers, and caregiver training that is compliant with all state licensure to name a few.

The Benefits of a Franchise System

There are many advantages to becoming part of a franchise system. An independent business owner wouldn’t have preferred vendor connects or the preferred pricing. With a franchise system, all of that has been researched and negotiated for you. As a franchise owner with Right at Home, you will also receive a week of in-person training in Omaha, as well as training until you open your doors.

Engaging and Retaining Caregivers

Right at Home works with franchisees by providing the framework on how to select the best caregivers, and what to look for in the interview process. Once you hire a caregiver, corporate can help you know what kind of training, development opportunities, and growth opportunities you can provide to your caregivers based on your office size and the types of clients you have. There are also preferred partnerships available that will track caregiver engagement, and help you review and recognize your caregivers based on KPIs. Right at Home also wants to help you create an employee referral program, and can provide tools and resources, as well as guidance coaching to execute on retention.

Measuring Caregiver Success

Franchisees can measure the success of their caregivers by reviewing on-time percentages and client satisfaction scores, as well as the skill of the caregiver and compatibility with the client. We also look at caregiver satisfaction. Franchisees can create healthy competition between caregivers and provide monthly contests with prizes. Every franchise owner has their own unique way, but Corporate can provide recommendations and best practices on all the options. Fellow franchise owners in the system can also be consulted for their opinions. Caregiver and client satisfaction should be measured every month.

Common Goal

Right at Home’s corporate office is very collaborative, working towards a common goal of supporting franchisees and their growth within our business. The HR team works with the employee experience team, and with the business performance coaches, creating that conduit or navigation to know the ebbs and flows of each specific franchisee’s business. Our corporate team wants to know goals, metrics, and then provide the business coaching to get them there. The Technology and Data team does a great job of capturing what is actually happening in the franchise business. So if you are not getting the numbers needed, the performance coach will help you make the necessary changes. The majority of our decisions are data-driven. We also find that franchisees who engage with their peers in the system are some of the most successful.
