Description

With a background in sales and business ownership, Lauren Miller became a Right at Home franchise owner in 2019. She chose Right at Home for its franchise model and territory availability. Enjoy hearing Lauren talk about becoming a Right at Home franchise owner with Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development.

Previous Background

Lauren Miller owns three territories spanning Central Arkansas, which includes Little Rock. She started with Right at Home in 2019. She had always worked in sales and was in the pharmaceutical industry for many years. Then settled into business ownership in a different franchise industry and worked as director of development. Through some family losses and tough times, she eventually came to Right at Home.

Choosing Right at Home

Lauren felt led to start a home care company and wanted to work with a franchise system again. They looked at five to six national franchise companies and Right at Home ended up being the choice. Territory availability was one of the factors, but through her research found there were expansion possibilities and was able to work with franchise neighbors.

Life as a New Franchisee

Lauren says being with Right at Home has been absolutely the greatest professional accomplishment of her life. When you start with Right at Home, you have to be willing to do everything. She had been involved in business and sales, but didn’t have an MBA. And, Lauren didn’t have a lot of experience, especially in the health care space. She states that she just jumped in, and kept her head above water. In the six years in, it’s amazing how things have changed. She never imagined that a company she was an owner of could do this much good in people’s lives.

Most Valuable Support

When Lauren speaks about the support from Right at Home, she notes that she was able to call her business coach about anything, even the smallest of things like getting a watermark off a Word document. They do a lot of hand-holding and provide us with so many valuable pieces of advice. Right at Home really feels like they serve our clients well, especially our veterans. Nationally, it’s a big deal to accept federal money to take care of society’s most vulnerable. We have had amazing help with Right at Home’s support as we’ve grown our VA business serving our veterans, and serve them well. There is an air force base in our territory, so we have a large concentration of that demographic. The Government Affairs team, Doug and Ginger, at the Corporate office, have been amazing. It is very important for us to not only grow the business, build sustainable practices, and have a team that’s dedicated, but who also really wants to offer quality care. Lauren acknowledges that Right at Home helped her business get accepted as a Federal vendor, as well as maintain and foster that relationship.

Advice to Prospective Owner

Lauren first found out about the senior care space as a client, using the service as a family member. She came into this being very consumer-oriented, not really thinking about the human side of the product. She now knows that people are our product. Our caregivers are the lifeblood of what we do. As an owner, you are serving two completely different populations simultaneously and bringing them together every day. If you are considering a franchise with Right at Home, you have to want to serve people and you have to want to be involved in their lives. That’s really important, and Lauren thinks that is what has served their business best, the caregivers, clients, admin team, and everybody that comes together to do what we do every day.
