Background and Intro 

Renee Concialdi and her husband started with one territory over nine years ago with Renee primarily handling the operations and her husband heading up the marketing. They started with their first territory in Pasadena (resale), and they expanded to San Gabriel (new territory) and West Covina (resale). Renee had over 20 years of corporate working her way up the ladder to vice president of client services and operations. After 20 years, she felt her autonomy was being lost and wanted to find a career that would be more compelling and rewarding.

Choosing Right at Home 

When Renee started searching for a new career, she ran into a friend who suggested that with her experience, she should be a business owner. Renee said it felt like lightning hit her. She started working with a business broker and based on profiling, he suggested Right at Home. Growing up with a parent who had a disability, she had been a family caregiver all her life, so she knew Right at Home was a great option. After evaluating Right at Home, she was so impressed with the whole acquisition process, and how the team informed her who Right at Home was and why it was founded, along with the benefits and rewards, it was just a natural choice.

The Compelling Reason

If you’re going to own your own business, be your own boss, and be an employer of others to provide care to the community, you have to be passionate about it. Renee stated that it is so compelling to know we’re doing good work all the time.

A Typical Day

Every day is different, with a typical day starting by going into the office. Renee adds that the night before she is reviewing what the day will be like and what meetings are going on or events. She loves being out in the community and supporting the community. There is office work, however, she has been able to build a wonderful leadership team. She will help problem-solve unique scenarios, questions, and things not experienced before. There are financial items, and a review of the health of the business, as well as strategizing about growth and development. She loves to be strategic and has built a great team that can execute the day-to-day really well.

Now vs. Then

When you’re a brand new owner, it’s getting your arms around your business. Renee’s first territory was a resale, so her day-to-day was sitting with every person, learning every job and what every person did. She was learning state compliance and best practices, as well as attending legal seminars and webinars.

Support from Right at Home 

Renee didn’t want to start from scratch when she purchased her Right at Home. She wanted to buy a recipe book and a great relationship with a franchisor who values and supports their constituency. With Right at Home, Renee says she loves the tools, techniques, and daily support. There are playbooks for office staff framework and marketing. The coaches are wonderful, along with the network of other owners.

Advice to a Prospective Franchisee

The best piece of advice Renee has provided to prospective owners who have called on a Validation call is to come visit her in her office and see what they do. Understand what it’s like, talk to her team, and have a frame of reference. All the owners who have done this, have come back and thanked her. Renee wished she would have done more of that because it would have helped her start faster.
