RightStart | The Franchisee Onboarding Process 2.27.24

Duration: 31m 27s

Description:

The Franchisee Onboarding Process or “RightStart” is a great program that integrates new franchise owners into the Right at Home system, ensuring they get the momentum and skills needed as they begin to open their businesses. Enjoy listening to Jen Chaney, VP of Franchise Development, discussing with Shannon Mitchell, Director of Operational Excellence, how her team helps new franchisees become more effective and efficient.

Starting with a Signed Franchise Agreement

Right at Home will work with you, throughout the process. They will map out all the steps along the way so nothing falls through the cracks.

RightStart Onboarding

The first interaction will be an introduction to Right at Home’s RightStart Onboarding Schedule – a formal project management schedule that helps you obtain your licensure, helps you find your office location, get your business insurance, and all of your key operating software, as well as helps you ramp up for your first client, conduct your first orientation, hit the market selling your Right at Home brand. An onboarding manager will guide you throughout the entire process, as it is broken down into key milestones. As a new franchisee, you’ll meet weekly with your manager to help achieve those goals in small chunks. Right at Home provides training, templates, guidance, and resources to help you execute each of the tasks associated with opening your new business.

Time Commitment

The Operational Excellence team commonly touches base with you 2-3 hours a week, and then you’ll go and execute the tasks. If you have questions, they will provide answers on the next call and also set up the next set of tasks.

Customized Training

Onboarding and training are customized to each individual, as each state is different, as well as each owner and each business. It is also based on your timing and goals. Standard agenda items will be knowing how to be a Right at Home operator, how to service clients, create a care plan, and manage your care team. If you are a CPA, there is no reason to spend extra time on QuickBooks. If you are a nurse, we don’t want to spend extra time on quality of care.

In-person Training

A week of in-person training (Residence Week) is held in Omaha at the corporate office. It is focused on ensuring you have everything needed to begin selling your business, recruiting caregivers, and providing care by the time you leave. Before Residence Week, we are working on technical items – getting systems installed, chairs, paint colors, and insurance coverage. When you leave Residence Week, you are focused on marketing, selling, and any final processes needed.

Plan Timeline

A Standard Onboarding Plan takes about 12 weeks, but that doesn’t account for licensure to get operations going prior to your first client. An onboarding manager to work with you on marketing, social media, technology, etc. while you build your client base. At 45 days from Residence Week, we strive to have you get your first client. In four to six months, our team will come out and do an on-site visit. We encourage you to engage with other franchisees who are in the same process/stage as you. Upon becoming compliant with your franchise agreement, you’ll transition to a regional coach (typically between 4-6 months). Also once you attend residence week, your permanent coach will be on your calls as well, learning your business and processes.

Licensure

If your state requires a license, it can take anywhere from 30-90 days depending on the state that you’re operating. We do require you to have a license before attending Residence Week, as well as business insurance, a lease for your office space, purchase of QuickBooks and WellSky.

Shadowing

Directly after Residence Week, we set up an on-site visit for you to visit an existing office that’s within driving distance of your territory. The on-site visit typically allows you to spend 1-1.5 days with them. You’ll see how they conduct inside sales calls, provide caregiver orientation, etc.

Partnerships & Independent Ownership

If you are in a partnership, both you and your partner are welcome to come to Residence Week, the on-site visit, and to engage in every single call along the way through onboarding. Independent owners may want to wait to hire a staff person after residence week, as we discuss roles and tasks at training. Our expectation is that after Residence Week, you will be devoted full-time to your Right at Home business.

Business Office Location

Right at Home will provide a checklist and items for consideration when looking for your office. Your office location will need to be approved by the corporate office.

Milestone Checklist

The checklist is broken out day by day, and we will let you know if you are going off-track. Along with the checklist, you’ll also receive access to our hub and to Polsinelli (our legal resource).
